[wny-digital-equity-list] Action Needed: Protect the Digital Equity Act!

Good morning, WNYDEC.

Last Friday, the Trump Administration sent letters to states and territories terminating Digital Equity Act (DEA) grants and canceled four NTIA Competitive Grant contracts, charging that the Act is unconstitutional. The DEA was passed as part of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) back in 2021 and is the basis for vast swaths of funding intended to promote digital inclusion across the nation.

I have adapted a letter drafted by the New York State Digital Equity Network (NYSDEN) to be sent by individuals to their legislators via ResistBot. I encourage you to click on the link below (or text PUFUOW to 50409) to sign and send this letter to your legislators. Please feel free to distribute this link widely.

ResistBot will send an email (free), fax, or USPS letter (the latter two cost some virtual currency that’s purchased with real dollars) to your US Senators and US Representatives.

You will need to enter your street address and name for the purposes of identifying the correct legislators (this can be used nationwide, so share with your friends and family) and for signing the letter. I’ve used ResistBot for about five years and can’t trace any spam mail/email/phone calls/texts to the service.

Thanks for your efforts to continue promoting digital inclusion!

Warm regards,

Don
